Chiang Mai & northern Thailand
We are running requests here by hand while the local provider network is still small. Expect a conversation with us before your request goes out.
Chiang Mai's hill-tribe villages, elephant camps and coffee farms sit on land access and community permission that shift by season. A local knows which camps are community-run and which trails are open this month.
Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, the gold-topped temple on the mountain above the city, reached by a long naga-flanked staircase.
What a local knowsSomeone who lives here goes at opening, before the car park and songthaews fill, then drives on past the temple to Bhubing Palace's gardens or the Hmong market at Doi Pui instead of staying in the temple courtyard.
What a local changes here
Chiang Mai's hill-tribe villages, elephant camps and coffee farms sit on land access and community permission that shift by season. A local knows which camps are community-run and which trails are open this month.
What you cannot just book
A homestay night in a Karen or Lahu village runs through the village head's permission, arranged by someone the community already knows. A listing link does not carry that permission with it.
What people get wrong
Booking any camp that calls itself a 'sanctuary', the word carries no regulation here, and some still run riding and shows under that name.
When, and why it matters
Northern Thailand's burning season, roughly February through April, pushes air quality into unhealthy ranges from agricultural fires. A local knows which weeks and which valleys clear first, and which don't clear at all.
