What a local knowsRafting guides read the day's dam release before picking a put-in point.
What a local changes here

What you cannot just book
Which rapids run on a given day depends on dam release volume from Tehri upstream. Licensed rafting operators track this directly; it isn't published as a fixed timetable a traveller can check in advance.
What people get wrong
First-timers expect rafting to start from Rishikesh town itself. The circuit begins upstream at Shivpuri or Kaudiyala. Rafting isn't run through the town's own ghats.
When, and why it matters
Char Dham roads and the Valley of Flowers trail open only once Himalayan snowmelt clears the passes, and close again before winter snow returns. Monsoon landslides can shut the same road mid-season without warning.
